These round-shaped seed beads are manufactured using unique technology for cutting glass tubes with round or square holes into various sized pieces which are then rounded and polished when hot and subsequently classed by size and shape.

Whereas uncoated rocailles are left with the pure glass finish, a coated rocaille is given a further surface finish, for example colouring, galvanising or other types of decoration.

Indian handicraft beads have a relatively larger hole for their size, suitable for pearl embroidery without adding too much weight to the textile. Due to the larger hole, a larger number of seed beads can fit in a unit of weight than normal seed beads. The manufacturer's size numbering differs slightly from the sizes known in Europe (Preciosa).
